Your
Hearing Care Service Provider and Hearing Aid Retailer
Leightons
HearingCare operates hearing care retail and
hearing test outlets
throughout the south east of England. We focus on providing
exceptional service and care for anyone concerned about their
hearing or looking to buy digital
hearing aids and batteries. Leightons HearingCare
Ltd employs Hearing Aid Audiologists who are registered under
the Hearing Aid Council Act 1968 and are members of the British
society of Hearing Aid Audiologists. We are proud of our professional
staff; we encourage a friendly, understanding and consultative
attitude; and we seek to support the local communities in
which we live and work.
Our
history
Leightons became a Hearing Care retailer in 2005 after numerous
suggestions from our customers at our parent and founding
company Leightons Opticians. Leightons is a family owned company,
established in 1928 by H. O. Leighton, the father of the current
chairman, Richard Leighton.
Leightons
- the best place to talk about hearing
As a hearing care retailer, Leightons continues to
focus on providing value through personal service, via highly
professional, qualified staff and by offering the latest hearing
aid technologies from the world's leading hearing aid
manufacturers. Leightons values its family heritage and encourages
everyone in the company to value and foster a close-knit attitude.
There is a shared goal of achieving 100% customer satisfaction
through an individual approach to every customer and the provision
of quality hearing care by fully qualified and registered
hearing aid audiologists.
As
both an opticians and a hearing care retailer we recognise
that a hearing loss can be gradual but its effects isolating
and sometimes confusing and that's why we offer a free
hearing test and encourage regular hearing checks
,being just as important as checks of your eyes and teeth.
Signs
of hearing loss
We may notice hearing loss for the first time when we are
in a crowd, such as at a party, where there is a lot of background
noise particularly when trying to hear speech.

There
are many other signs, such as:
>
Not hearing the doorbell or telephone
> Turning the television up too loud for comfort
> Not hearing people come into the room
> Misunderstanding what has been said
> Speaking unclearly or in a monotonous tone
> Not sure where sounds are coming from
> Having difficulty hearing at a distance eg in church
or public gatherings

What
people say when recognising the signs of hearing loss
>
"I don't hear very well in meetings and group situations"
> "I find restaurants and social situations challenging"
> "My family and friends comment that I have misheard
or misunderstood conversation"
> "I find people mumble"
> "Television presenters aren't trained to speak the
way they used to be."
> "If people spoke clearly I would be able to understand
them."
> "I am okay when it is a one to one conversation."

Effects
of hearing loss
Hearing loss usually, happens so gradually that we learn to
accommodate its effects by becoming very good at things like
recognising facial expressions, understanding body language
and lip reading. Later, we may well begin to avoid certain
situations, like parties, where there is a lot of background
noise. During this time, it is possible that communication,
and social events in particular, will become a strain. This
can lead to feelings of isolation. Even a mild hearing loss
can affect interpersonal relationships and degree of social
interaction, and even careers.
It's
important to recognise that a hearing loss doesn't just affect
the person with the hearing loss it also affects their families
and their friends. It is likely to affect all of us at some
stage both directly (when our own hearing deteriorates) and
indirectly (when a loved one begins to struggle). It is often
these friends and family who notice the first signs of a hearing
impairment complaining that the tv is louder than normal,
that they have to repeat themselves or that they are often
misheard. This is also why we always recommend having a family
member accompany you during our free hearing test and full
assessment as support and to help provide input into any issues
that they experience.

like the human brain, they can identify those sounds we want
