Free hearing tests, using Live Speech

06 January 2010

New for 2010, Leightons are offering full and free hearing tests, not just a quick 5-minute test! Rather Leightons full hearing consultation will establish exactly the type and degree of hearing loss. Using a new type of hearing test called Live Speech Mapping, Leightons will help provide a more accurate and insightful analysis of how people hear with and without hearing aids.

“Its vital that people have the opportunity to understand how their hearing works, and early detection is very important, so we offer free hearing tests to encourage people to have their hearing checked. Living with a hearing loss can be extremely isolating and can even lead to depression through a lack of social interaction. So its for this reason that we have introduced Live Speech Mapping, in all our Hearing Care Centres, which builds upon our full and thorough hearing consultation with the use of live speech to detect and show a hearing loss”, says Ryan Leigtons, Director for Leightons HearingCare.

Leightons experienced hearing aid audiologists offer free hearing tests that now include Live Speech Mapping, which is a relatively new method of testing for hearing loss, that rather than using standard beeps and tones, uses live speech to determine the extent of a hearing loss. This process allows for a more insightful analysis of how someone is actually hearing, and is ideal for anyone concerned about their hearing or for people who currently wear hearing aids. Live Speech Mapping will show a hearing loss in relation to speech, revealing exact words, or parts of speech that are not audible, and this can be displayed on a computer screen to allow people to actually “see how they hear”.

Leightons have been using Live Speech Mapping for a several months with great results and have received excellent customer feedback, but only now have they extended this new service to all branches.

“Current hearing aid wearers are amazed at how we can use this new equipment to reveal exactly how their hearing aids and set-up are working for them. Once we have assessed how someone is hearing speech in a live environment we can then make necessary adjustments to their hearing aids in order to improve their listening experience”, comments Catherine Brown, Hearing Aid Audiologist at Leightons.

Live Speech Mapping

For people concerned about their hearing, but not yet wearing hearing aids, Live Speech Mapping is a great way to show which parts of everyday speech are not being heard. “Everyone likes watching their voices creating a reading on the screen, and we normally see that it’s the high frequency sounds that are not being heard” says Catherine Brown.

Leightons also offer a free haring aid demonstration for people that have a hearing loss and wish to see how hearing aids might help. “So using the latest digital hearing aids and Live Speech Mapping together, our customers can not only hear the improvement but also see, live on a computer screen, how their hearing has improved”, Catherine Brown.

So if you are interested in learning more about how well you are actually hearing with your current hearing aids, or are concerned about your hearing, contact Leightons for a free hearing test. And remember it’s not a quick 5-minute hearing test, but a full professional evaluation of your hearing using advanced diagnostic equipment via fully qualified hearing aid audiologists.
