Talking about hearing loss

'My hearing deteriorated very suddenly…much of the time I was unaware'

My hearing deteriorated very suddenly - of which, much of the time, I was unaware – probably over a period of 18 months. My wife was the inspiration in suggesting I underwent a hearing test because she had observed that I was increasingly asking her to repeat what she had just said. I found that I needed the volume on TV higher than my wife (which had never been the case before) and I became aware that I could not hear our clocks striking as well as I used to. At dinner parties and receptions I was finding it more difficult to hear everything that was being said. I duly underwent a hearing test and it was confirmed that I needed hearing aids. Katy Hurband at Leightons was highly recommended to me by a great friend, to whom she had recently provided a pair of hearing aids.

‘I was offered a hearing aid to try…’

I felt, at all times, both before and during the appointment very relaxed. I attended on my own and felt completely at ease, everything was explained to me by Katy in great detail (mostly of which I hope I understood!) I was offered a hearing aid to try, and felt under no pressure to buy. I would particularly like to mention that I believe Katy is a huge asset to Leightons in terms of professionalism, understanding, diplomacy and charm. Nothing was too much trouble for her and she combines all these qualities with a great sense of humour, which is important. I found the “after care service” at Leightons very satisfactory. I have, in fact, returned after my initial fitting of the hearing aids for adjustments and have not encountered any difficulties in booking short notice appointments. The staff at Leightons are very polite and efficient - which sadly is not always the case these days.
